Signs your Muskoka basement needs waterproofing
Puddles are the late sign. Most Muskoka lower levels tell you earlier if you know what to look for after melt.
Early signs
Musty air when you open the cottage. White mineral staining on concrete. Paint that bubbles at the bottom of a wall. Rust at the base of a steel post. A crack that looks dry until you put your hand on it in May.
Active leaks
Water at the wall–floor joint after ice leaves the lake. Window wells that hold melt. A cold cellar that weeps. Carpet or stored gear that never quite dries along one wall.
What not to do
Do not rely on interior waterproof paint on a wall that is taking melt and lake moisture. Do not run a dehumidifier and call it solved. Those buy time. They do not move the water.
